Temporary registration

Emergency temporary registration is for the sole purpose of assisting in an emergency.
Special event temporary registration is for a ​​special event that does not exceed 90 days.

Emerg​​ency 

When an emergency has been declared by the registrar, the temporary registration category allows CRNBC to quickly and temporarily register RNs who meet a specific criteria. During a declared emergency, Temporary Registration is an option for:

  • RNs and NPs with current practising registration in good standing in Canada or the United States
  • RNs and NPs in the Canadian and US armed forces

  • Eligible applicants can practice nursing in B.C. up to 90 days
  • An extension is possible if the emergency situation continues to be in effect

To apply for temporary registration during a declared emergency, download and complete the application forms and return them to register@crnbc.ca

​​Special eve​​nt

Temporary registration can be issued for up to 90 days to qualified Canadian registered nurses participating in a special event. A special event is a non-routine activity that is time limited, such as a conference or special gathering of people, or a clinical education program.

Once all requirements have been met, temporary registration will be issued and confirmation provided via e-mail. Please note that it is illegal to engage in the practice of nursing in British Columbia until you have received confirmation that temporary registration has been granted. Individuals found to have engaged in the practice of nursing without registration may be subject to Professional Conduct Review.​

Temporary reg​istration during a special event that does not exceed 90 days

To apply for temporary registration during a special event, download and complete the application forms and return them to register@crnbc.ca

Once issued, temporary registration will allow you to practise nursing for a maximum of 90 days at the specific facility you have identified on your application form. Under this form of temporary registration, you cannot legally practise nursing outside of this facility.
