Quality Assurance Contract Assessor

Four part-time contract positions

Are you a Pharmacist or MD in B.C.? Do you have experience and knowledge of prescribing best practices for pain and addictions management? Do you also have knowledge of professional standards of practice, quality assurance, and the application of B.C. health legislation, and regulatory bylaws and policy. The College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC) is looking for four Quality Assurance Contract Assessors to support its Quality Assurance Committee to implement components of its prescription review program. The purpose of CRNBC’s QA Program is to support registrants’ continuing professional development to maintain competence and achieve high practice standards. This part-time position involves your participation in four meetings per calendar year.

CRNBC is the regulatory body for close to 40,000 registered nurses, nurse practitioners and licensed graduate nurses in British Columbia. Our purpose is to protect the public by effectively regulating registered nurses and nurse practitioners.

What you will be doing​​

Assessors who meet selection criteria are appointed by and report to the QA Committee. Assessors assess registrant professional performance and inspect the records, including patient records, of the registrant, work closely with QA staff and the QA Committee; and contribute to the development and refinement of the Quality Assurance Program policy, process and tools.

Responsibilities include:​​

  • Participating in initial and biannual orientation and training with CRNBC to maintain their competence as a QA Contract Assessor.
  • Revewing PharmaNet data.
  • Conducting registrant interviews and onsite documentation. reviews in various locations around BC. Completing reports for the QA Committee.
  • Contributing to improving CRNBC’s Quality Assurance Program.

Your education and skills:

  • Practicing registration in good standing with registration with another B.C. health regulator.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in clinical practice, including experience managing or leading.
  • Minimum three years’ experience as an educator and/or preceptor.
  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding:
    • Entry level competencies for RNs and NPs;
    • CRNBC Standards of Practice, including the Professional Standards, RN and NP Scope of Practice and Practice Standards;
    • QA Program related legislation, bylaws, policies and procedures;
    • NP streams of practice; and,
    • Best practices for prescribing controlled drugs and substances, including opioid agonist therapy.
  • Demonstrated skill regarding:
    • Conducting professional performance assessments;
    • Conflict resolution; and,
    • Facilitation/coaching.
  • Excellent oral, written and well-developed interpersonal communication skills.
  • Working level knowledge and experience using current MS Office tools required. MS CRM Dynamics, and MS SharePoint experience an asset.


The selected candidates will receive an honorarium payment for each committee meeting attended.
